Excerpts from the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Administrator’s Companion – Chapter 19
As you know, the premise behind any database query is the return of information based on a set of criteria. In other words, you define what information you’re trying to obtain in the form of a query statement. The query engine then searches the database for entries that match your criteria. The query result then displays the data that matches your criteria.

IT Manager Connections Webcast Audio: Why Virtualization Is More Than Server Virtualization (Level 300)
The world is buzzing about virtualization. Most people equate virtualization with machine virtualization. They hail virtualization's impact on server consolidation and its respective cost savings. And they should. But machine virtualization is not the whole story; virtualization is much bigger than that. Join this session to learn how an end-to end virtualization strategy can profoundly impact every aspect of your IT life cycle. We talk about a comprehensive virtualization strategy and explain what we are doing in this space. We cover Microsoft SoftGrid, System Center Virtual Machine Manager, and Virtual Server 2005 R2, along with virtualization support in the Windows Server 2008 operating system. TechNet Webcast: Automated Windows Server 2008 Imaging and Deployment Using the Microsoft Deployment Accelerator (Level 300)
Deployment tools for the Windows Server 2008 operating system have changed and most legacy tools will not support automated installation of Windows Server 2008. Microsoft Deployment is the next version of Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2007. The fourth-generation deployment accelerator supports Windows Server 2008 imaging and deployment. This session is delivered by solution developers that explain how you can use Microsoft Deployment to plan deployments, create disk images, customize installation task sequences, automate disk and NIC configuration, and automate server role definition. We discuss previously released tools (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and Windows Deployment Services [WDS] with multicast support), features and limitations, and the Microsoft Deployment release road map.

Automating New User Provisioning Scenario with SCSM and SCCM
This demonstration video shows how System Center products Service Manager and Configuration Manager can work together to provision a new employee with all the software and infrastructure services he needs to be productive right away. Using the Service Manager authoring tool and platform including Windows Workflow Foundation workflow and PowerShell, the process of creating a new user in Active Directory, provisioning an Exchange Mailbox, adding the user to certain groups in Active Directory, and deploying virtual software applications can all be automated without writing a single line of code. The end user can then use the self-service portal in Service Manager to request new software to be deployed automatically (after approval!) via Configuration Manager.

90 seconds to the cloud: Virtual Machine Manager 2012 Beta with Kenon Owens
Kenon Owens joined Symon Perriman on the Edge stage to talk about the new features and focus of Virtual Machine Manager 2012, which is available in beta today. New to this version of VMM is the concept of clouds - a new way to think about how you manage your resources around the services they deliver, instead of the machines and roles. It's very easy to use VMM to provision new machines and put them in a new cloud - Kenon claimed he could do it in under 90 seconds, so Symon put him to the test.
