SMS FAQ: Crystal Reports Hangs with a Grey Screen

Problem:
If I schedule a report from the console it appears to run just fine. I get the circle with the green check indicating a successful completion. If I double-click it to bring up the actual report the Crystal plugin looks like it is starting up but I get a grey screen where the report should appear.

The CPU goes to 100% and the mmc.exe is the culprit. Running SMS 2.0 SP2. The admin console is running on a Win 2000 Professional system. Primary server is running NT 4.0 SP6. I can generate and view reports fine if I go to the Primary server and run admin console from there.

Resolution contributed by Dave Hirsh:

I started hacking around and seemed to have found the fix. I ended up checking the Info Sentinel service on my Win 2000 Professional system. It had a logon account of ".\InfoService" which didn't look quite right. I went and changed it to use the "smsservice" account. Guess what? Reports show up just fine.

It's funny how the Crystal plugin wouldn't report the account error and that the MMC.EXE would jump to 100% utilization.
