Problem: I am monitoring 24 Windows 2000 domain controllers. Part of our strategy is to change the Directory Services Restore Mode Password every month, however, every time a server is bought up in Directory Services Restore Mode a duplicate entry is added to the MOM database.
Everything is the same apart from the server is reported as being in a workgroup, so I now have duplicate servers in the database, how can I remove these entries and how can I stop this happening in the future?
Contributed By: Nissim Ben-Maor In order to change the Administrator password in Active Directory restore mode you can use “SETPWD.EXE” (it’s available in SP2). Frankly you can use MOM to reset the password using a script.
In order to stop the duplicate entries, change the OnePoint service to manual (or use Ignore Agent), when starting the computer in restore mode, later on change it back to automatic.
Since the frequency of performing this task is high you could create a custom task so you can execute your script via MOM when needed.
