Forum Stories: IE cumulative fixes constantly reinstalling

From the Software Update Services forum

I have a machine that is trying to constantly reinstall Aug Cumulative patch for IE6 SP1. Windows update site lists the history of the patch as successfully installed, yet it keeps saying it needs to be installed. I have found a technet article of the problem but for XP systems. This is a W2K system. This machine has shown the same problem with the February and April cumulative updates too.

Anyone also have reinstalling patches?

Problem occurs because original install of IE6 did not complete properly. Technet article http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q312444 discusses the fix. Once this is sorted out the update can successfully apply.
