Manually Managing ConfigMgr 2007 Conflicting Records Or Duplicates

In ConFigMgr 2007 the Hardware ID is used to flag resource systems that may have conflicting records or duplicates (Dupes) Id’s. Dupes can occur if you have to perform a reinstall on a resource where the Hardware ID remains the same however in ConFigMgr the GUID was changed which can happen particularly in larger sites.

You can use the Advanced tab of the Site Server Properties to set the site server to “Manually Resolve Conflicting Records” so that you can see the conflicting records however you have to deal with them manually which can be a good thing.

Note: The default is “Automatically create new client records for duplicate hardware IDs”

If you choose to Manually Resolve Conflicting Records you will be able to see the conflicting resources by looking at the “Conflicting Records” leaf of the Computer Management page and deal with them as needed either individually or as a group which will be discussed below.

To manually resolve the conflicting records follow the steps below:

1. From within the Configuration Manager console select the Computer Management leaf and then select the Conflicting Records.

2. At the Details pane select the conflicting record(s) from the Actions tab and choose one of the following:

Merge - This will allow you to combine the record(s) with an existing record which creates a unified record. You can use this if you want to keep the previous ID for a resource that has been recovered.

New - This will create a new record for the resource(s) and can be used if you do a lot of imaging and the technicians more often than not do not inform you that machines are being reimaged and you do not have a chance to remove the resources from the database.

Block - This allows you to create a new record as the New task does and then marks the resource as Blocked.
