Hide Those Pesky Legacy Updates

So you have upgrade from SMS 2003 to ConfigMgr 07. Gotten rid of all your SMS 2003 client and removed ITMU from your server but you still see those pesky legacy updates in the Update Repository. Here's some information on why they are there and how to hide them so that you don't accidently download them thereby wasting space on your DP's.

Quote from the ConfigMgr docs: "During the upgrade process, Configuration Manager 2007 Setup appends (LEGACY) to the title for each software update. This helps you identify software updates that were migrated among the new software updates metadata that is synchronized after the upgrade. Software updates with (LEGACY) in the title should not be deployed to clients and are migrated only for software update distributions that were also migrated and for reporting purposes."

"Note: Migrated software updates that are in a software update deployment that was also migrated will not be hidden until the migrated deployment is deleted or the updates are removed from the deployment."

Hhiding those updates is easy. Simply download the attached script which was provided by Doug Eby at Microsoft, save it as a .wsf and execute it from a command line with the parameter /sitecode:"YourSiteCode". like hide_legacy_updates.wfs /sitecode:ABC

When the script has completed you will get a confirmation of how many updates were hidden. (see screen shot 2 below) and that's all there is to it next time you look at the update repository the (Legacy) updates are no longer displayed.
