Bio: | | Dan Thomson is employed by Strategic Business Systems as an SMS Engineer and works in the District of Columbia. Dan is currently the project manager for a Centralized Patch Management project at his place of employment. He is also a freelance developer and writer.
Dan is very passionate about systems automation and can be found hanging around myITforum's Windows and Scripting forums. When not fooling around at the computer, Dan enjoys spending time with his family and friends, outdoor activities, and doing stuff around the home.
Dan can be contacted by sending an email to: dethomson@hotmail.com.
Dan was first introduced to computers years ago when he became a machinist in 1988. His first experience was with an Atari that was used to manually create and store the programs required to operate the CNC machinery. Dan graduated to a PC and gradually worked his way through learning various CAD and CAD/CAM programs.
Fooling around with computers became a hobby for Dan. After spending 10 years as a talented machinist, he decided it was time for a career change. He attended a couple MCSE 4.0 and A+ classes at a nearby community college, studied hard and earned his certifications.
The college he attended at the time was beginning a migration away from MAC's to PC's and was very under staffed. Dan saw this as an opportunity for an individual to get a foot in the door and volunteered some of his time to assist with the migration. Dan was soon offered a position at the college. He soon became an influential member of the college's IT Support Center and helped to support 900+ systems spread across 5 geographic locations.
After spending 6 years at the college, Dan was recruited by Aspiration Software.
Dan has experience in the following areas:- Installation and maintenance of Windows operating systems
- Installation and maintenance of various computer and printer hardware
- Active Directory
- Group Policies and System Policies
- Operating System imaging strategies
- Defining standards and strategies for operating system and software deployment
- End user training and support
- Anti-virus maintenance
- Utilization of various scripting technologies
- Installation, maintenance and enhancement of Microsoft SMS
Dan dabbled a bit with Linux and MAC, but decided to focus his talents on the Windows platform.
Dan also started up the fledgling Mid Atlantic Windows Management User Group. Don't forget to visit Dan's blog. |
