Hi All,

Wanted to check how others have resolved an issue I am having with SCCM 2007 sp1 and discovering computer objects from AD. The schema has been extended, and the discovery is working to a point. What's happening is a large part of PC's that are ACTIVE have been discovered, some won't be as they are still in AD and no longer on the network, but there are a couple hundred that still should be discovered as they have been active or recently have been "seen or audited" by another application on our network, they are even on the same subnets so I don't believe it's a boundary issue (we have multiple sub-nets and a few AD sites). I noticed some hostnames do not resolve by FQDN when pinged -a but this is what's happening.

From my reading I understand that it won't create a DDR or Discover a computer object form AD that it can't resolve an IP address, or from objects that have been disabled in AD or outside of the defined boundary, please correct me if I am wrong here?

What is happening is the adsysdis.log reports an error codes 11001 after the GetIPAddr - getaddriinfo(), CADSource: processsysteminfo failed to get IP address, GetIPaddr - host not found resolving FQDN.. and Machine abc123456 is offline or invalid for a workstation or server object that has been inventoried by another network application from AD in the last 7 days or so.

OR the same log shows an entry for a workstation with the same error 11001, offline or invalid, failed to get ip address, not found resolving fqdn.. YET it's in CM Collection and All Systems query? IP is within our boundary.

OR the log shows and error 11001, and it's not discovered because it's outside of the boundary.

How do I confirm how a particular Resource was discovered in CM, is it the "Agent Name" ? I noticed some show multiple Agent Names (SMS_AD_SYSTEM_DISCOVERY_AGENT and SMS_AD_SYSTEM_GROUP_DISCOVERY_AGENT) and some have in addition MP_ClientRegistration and Heartbeat Discovery for Agent Names?

How does WINS come into the equation of discovery?

I should also add that the AD Security Group,  Heartbeat and Network Discovery (topology, search local subnets, search local domain, snmp = public, hops=0, snmp devices empty, dhcp not used, schedule weekly) are running in addition to the AD System.

Thank you.

If you're still working on this, please post how your Active Directory System Discovery is set up - if you are discovering from the domain or various organizational units...?  - and - to clarify if there are systems listed in Active Directory that are not being listed in ConfigMgr All Systems collection?

Thanks!

SCCM has discovered more computers and installed clients, but still a few hundred short. Not using Network discovery and only using AD discoveries.

You are correct, we have systems that are in AD but don't show in the All Systems collection as well.

Up to 35xx systems with 32xx clients, systems that have not been discovered or don't show in the All Systems query are on leased ip segments and/or vpn....
