We use SMS reports to keep up with our computer inventory.  Is there a utility or a way to add unsupported machines to the SMS reports just to help us keep up with the hardware??  For Example:  The vast majority of our computers run Windows but we also use VMware to host Windows virtual servers.  We would like to be able to include the VMware Host servers in the SMS reports as well.

55% of our boxes are virtual machines. As long as the computer account is registed in AD than the AD system discovery will pick them up.

Of course the hardware is virtual so ......

Are you talking about the ESX host themselves?

Yes, we would like to include the VMware ESX Host server and possibly other servers that are running a version of Linux.

Not sure about the ESX server- but for other non-windows you can use  Quest xtensions : http://www.quest.com/quest-management-xtensions-for-sms/

I've evaluated it, and it rocks!

Jane

EDIT:

SMS 2003 is an ideal solution for change and configuration management of Windows-based systems, but what about non-Windows systems? Thanks to Quest Management Xtensions for SMS, organizations with complex, heterogeneous environments can now extend the management capabilities of SMS 2003 to non-Windows systems such as Unix, Linux, Mac OS X and VMware ESX Server.

Guess its supported then.

Anyone use IDMIFS?  Do these allow you add a new record to hardware inventory?  We use NOIDMIFS which add info to an existing record.  I can't seem to find much info that makes sense to me about IDMIFS.
