We have several Citrix boxes that do not have a C: drive (M and N only). The
majority of these servers installed the advance client without a problem.
There are a few that give the following errors in the CCMsetup.log:

MSI: Invalid Drive: C:\
Installation failed with error code 1603
Client installation has failed too many times. Ccmsetup will now abort.

I tried manually installing the .msi from command line using ccminstalldir=
and smscachedir= both pointing to M. It looks like the client begins
installing to M and then errors out with

Invalid drive C:

Any ideas?

I've ran into this numerous times in our Citrix environment.
So far a CCMCLEAN and re-install has fixed it.
We have the client push turned on, so I've always assumed that the client initially installed before the box was switched over to M: and N:, and the client isn't happy about it.

Thats a very good point. I was thinking the same thing about the client installing before the drive change. So you ran ccmclean and then allowed SMS to push again or ran a manual install? If you did it manual did you run any special switches in the command line?

Thanks for the help.

I have done both, but generally run the manual install to get it over with. The only switches we add are to set the sitecode and cache size.

Cool. Thanks again for your help. I will give it a run on Monday and post back the results here.

Well that did not work for me unfortunatly. Ccmclean errored out (big surprise) and when I manually ran the client.msi I still got the same Invalid C drive error. Back to the drawing board.

Finally got a chance to visit this again.
Some searching led me to this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893652/en-us
which doesn't talk about our issue per se, but does address client repair. I tried the following command line on a Citrix box that was getting the "Invalid Drive c:\" error regardless of what I tried (ccmclean /removehistory, etc etc).

MSIEXEC.exe /I M:\WINDOWS\system32\ccmsetup\{2FBB7E06-7665-442B-98E3-189CB634C5CC}\client.msi

Note that this points to the default CCMSETUP folder, which in my case is on M: on our Citrix servers. The GUID may be different depending on your version of client. Note also I left off the /qn to watch it run. After a successfull execution, the SMS client was installed and in working order.
I've only tried this on one machine (so far, I'm sure it will rear it's ugly head again). YMMV.

Very nice find. The /removehistory and then reinstall worked for us but this is a great alternative.
