So you can set your DPs to allow anonymous access if you want (a must if you manage devices, I guess).  So if you elect not to, I see that the IIS log gets hit with a anonymous access denied, followed by a machine account success for every machine trying to hit the DP.  I would think that could be a bit of a performance hit for busy DPs failing once per machine before allowing access.  Anyone else see this?  Seems odd that a client would try an anonymous connection first.

Yes...I have also seen this. No answers or suggestions, but I can confirm that I have seen it.

I have seen this before; this is the default behavior for iis6 and above,
If you check the iis log for an integrated security site you should see up to three hits per file: the first two are anonymous, the third with a user (which succeeds). we checked on the subject when we used mom for iis monitoring and enabled the 40X error code alerts, it reported many events on successful logins,  it was traced to the standard behavior of iis.
