We have modified our SMS_DEF.MOF to collect PRINTER info and PRINTER CONFIGURATION info.  That works great...

My problem is, if somebody had a local printer last year and got rid of it, the driver doesn't get removed when the printer is retired.  So SMS still reports on that printer for that workstation.

Has anybody figured out a way around that?  I want a current list of which machines have local printers (vs. network printer) installed.

Thanks!

Only thing I could think of is change the way you are collecting the info or add syntax that only reports on printers that are "online".

Nope.  Heck, I bought a printer last week and my old still shows as a local printer.  That seems to be a Windows feature; to hold it in case you're swapping printers around.  Not sure you'll ever work around this one. I remember the monster mof had a printer entry under extended IE info you could look at, but again, I doubt it's smart enough to see live versus stale.
