I came across this article which walks you through importing non-MS software license data into Asset Intellingence.  I followed the documentation's instructions, created a CSV file and I ran through the wizard.  I got the following error at the end:

Error: Importing file:
We will now import licensing information from the file \\wkfntdsms02\pkg_src\Import Software Licenses\license.csv into the Asset Intelligence database.
Errors
Failed to import licensing data into the site database.

Anybody tried to do this before and get it to work?  For what it's worth, we are not an MDOP/AIS subscriber, so we do not have a System Center Online Authentication Certificate, but the CSV is a local import so I figured it wouldn't make a difference.  Would that affect our ability to import this data?

It should not affect your ability to import at all.  My hunch is that the site server does not have permissions to open the file.  Either move the file local to the site server or grant the site server's account permissions on the share and file.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The file is local, in a shared folder, where the computer has full access to the share and the file.  I gave it another try and I got the same error.

When you say computer, does the SYSTEM account have privileges or the computer account? For local shares, the SYSTEM account must have explicit privileges.

The SYSTEM account wasn't there, but it is now, on the Share and the file.  Still the same error.  Weird.

Which headers did you include in the CSV? Is the file indeed a plain text csv; have you tried opening it with notepad?

Here is a copy from my CSV file:

Name,Publisher,Version,Language,EffectiveQuantity,PONumber,ResellerName,DateOfPurchase,SupportPurchased,SupportExpirationDate
WinZip 9.0 SR-1,WinZip Computing,9.0.1.6224,1033,2,123456,SHI,9/8/2008,Yes,9/8/2009
Adobe Reader 8.1.2,Adobe Systems Incorporated,8.1.2,1033,4,654321,SHI,8/8/2007,Yes,8/8/2008

I've double checked against the above linked article and everything looks good to me.  I just wish the error was more specific   I'm going to dig around and see if there is a log anywhere for this stuff.

When you granted permissions, did you give full control or just read only?

Yes, Full Control.

I haven't had a chance to dig through the logs yet.  Hopefully I'll have time today.
