Hi,

Does anyone have expierence with using SCCM2007 for BIOS updates?

(Dell used to have/has  its "2003 Inventory Tool for Dell Updates" where you could make packages for distribution)

Does anyone use SCCM2007 today for BIOS updates?

Yes I have used it in limited setting but not on a global scale

We used the vbscript dell flash bios program with some modifications.

There's also the Dell catalogs for ConfigMgr: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/bb892875.aspx

hi

this is not exactly what you are looking for but what it is is a mechanism for achieving it

ie: targetting certain computers with certain advertisements

in this example i install 'quickset' on a Dell Latitude D430 as part of a task sequence, and it works wonderfully, you can apply the same logic to a dell bios upgrade by using the following switch when creating the program for the package

dellbios.exe /nopause

the /nopause means it won't ask for any keys to be pressed

good luck

cheers

What you need to use is the Dell Client Configuration Utility. this enables you to create BIOS packages also configuration files for deploying global BIOS settings.

Ive only used it for Configuring BIOS not actual upgrades but it can be done.

DCCU is not supported any more and hasn't been for some time, it doesnt support any of the new dell systems, Windows Vista isn't even supported.

here is Dell's own repsonse on bios upgrade with SCCM

DCCU might not be supported anymore but it works(for BIOS configuration anyway).

I can confgure bios's on Optiplex 755/vostro 410's etc so new units are fine.

Dell finally released a new version of DCCU...  I have had good luck with it so far.  Hopefully they will continue to release updates as needed.

Yes, the "DCCU" in my last post is the link to the new version.  It is DCCU 3.0.  Here is the full link as well: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R200703&deviceid=19801&fileid=278576
