I used nLite to add in new SATA drivers into my unattended installation. When I do an unattended install, it works on both a Lenovo T400 and HP DC5700. When I sysrep the HP DC5700, I load the image on a T400 and get a black screen. If I reboot, I get the Safe Mode menu options. If I choose Start Windows Normally, it just reboots and goes abck to that screen. If I choose Safe Mode, it hangs at agpCPQ.sys

I am using the ZTIHalDetect script to update the HAL. (the system was set to Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) before I sysprepped it).

If I sysprep it from the T400, I have no problems with it loading up with the mini-setup screen. I don't want to build it from the laptop, but if I have to, I will.

Any thoughts?

Be sure to include the appropriate PNP ID's in your sysprep.inf file.  This thread is a good reference:

Same procedures apply.

I have stumbled upon the issue. With no solution yet.

The T400 doesn't seem to have ACPI support. The moment I changed the HAL to that type and rebooted, I got the black screen.

And I can see I'm not the only one experiencing this: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=20929

So..my next attempt will be this patch:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG

We'll see how that goes.

Go into the BIOS on the T400 and change the SATA setting from AHCI to Compatability. That should do it.

I ran into this issue with my T400, W500, and X200 from lenovo. No matter what I placed into my sysprep file for drivers, it didn't matter. That was the only way I got by it. Let me know if that helps.

I've tried that. No dice. I'm stumped really.

I think it may have something to do with the Montevino chipset from intel. I'm reading rumors that Intel may have removed some ACPI support from the chip.

Anyone had any success with this yet, I'm getting the same thing.  My next step is to try and put the parameters into the sysprep.inf file.  I usually had to do that when getting a blue screen, never seen this black screen problem before so I'm not feeling very confident.

A black screen is the typical symptom of a HAL mismatch. (Mass storage driver problems almost always manifest themselves at a STOP 0x7b.)

I'm not sure how to fix it then if it's a HAL mismatch.  I'm using one image created with MS Virtual PC and run a HAL update script after the download of the image.  This process has worked for every single one of my models until these new IBM T400 PC's.

I had the same exact issue with the T400's I got in here at my company. I worked for weeks trying to find a solution. I build my master image in a VM and then snap a ghost image of it. I then apply that to the many different model Lenovo laptops that we have. Never did I run into an issue until the T400 came into my life! I did find a fix but I don't believe it's a great one. I'll share it anyway, so maybe someone can figure out a better one based off of it.
Keep in mind--I could use my old XP image just fine when the BIOS setting for SATA was in Compatability mode. The issue is all the machine's BIOS's come in ACHI mode, and I didn't want to manually change the BIOS on each machine before imaging them. My company images too many machines to do that. So here's what I did.......
Just before sysprepping the machine I forced a driver update on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller.
I forced it to install the driver for the new Intel(R) ICH9M/M-E 2 Port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1-2928 controller that's in these machines. The hardware ID is 2928 as it shows on the end of the description. I then ran sysprep, captured my Ghost image, and applied it to my image process. I can now successfully image the T400, W500, X200 (they all have this same controller), along with all the older model Lenovo machines in my environment.
Like I said, not a great work around but it works.

It could be a bad format choice if we can believe this site http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic21511.html

I'm still getting the black screen

I had a very easy fix (in hindsight).

Right before I run ZTIHalDetect.vbs in my startnet.cmd, I run the following command:

REM This command automatically adds the HAL if the Centrino 2 vPro chip is found.Lenovo T400/T500
[code]if /I "%PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER%"=="x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6, GenuineIntel" copy /y X:\Windows\HAL\*.* c:\Windows\System32\
[/code
I have the HAL files on the boot cd...

Worked like a dream. Supposedly, Intel removed support for the ACPIPC Hal in the montevino chipset...so I pre-emptively load the HAL.
