Hey guys

Currently trying to get a Dell 2950 image deployed, but it seems that the NIC that this machine uses (Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtreme II GigE) will ONLY install the drivers through the setup.exe and \or the extracted *.msi. Even if I import the *.inf's into the driver catalogue, the drivers are never installed and hence the build task sequence fails.

The only thing I can think of is to run the setup.exe before joining the server to the domain, but as it is still in WinPE mode, the Windows installer service will not work.

Has anyone come across this issue and maybe even a resolution?

Cheers

Have you tried downloading the driver directly from Broadcom?  Have you checked the C:\Drivers folder on the system where the image is being deployed to make sure that the driver is being copied?  You can also check the SMSTS.log to see if the driver if being identified?

Hi Jason

Yes, I have tried all of that. I brought up Device manager during the WinPE initialisation to see if the driver was installed...It recognised the NIC's (had yellow excalmation marks ) but would only install the drivers through the Setup.exe after WinPE as the Windows installer is not initialised during WinPE stage.

What I have done is actually install the Broadcom driver package as part of my capture image. Thankfully it does not check to see if you have Broadcom NIC's installed, and completes successfully..

I was able to get a 2950 imaged just last week with the 5708C NIC.  I used the drivers from Dell's website.  Just imported the .infs, etc.

Did you also import the monolithic driver (located in the RIS folder after you extract the drivers)?  I had to import that into my boot image as the OS selection screen wouldn't even come up.  But, sounds like you're past that part.
