ORIGINAL: southeyr I administer corporate computers/users in my normal function as an SMS Engineer in a specific domain. I am investigating a solution for deploying patches and applications to computers on the internet from different corporations. So my SCCM server should provide this to computers on the internet of "company 1" and computers on the internet of "company 2", "company 3" etc.. Can I use SCCM and WSUS to provide applications/patches to these users without requiring them to logon to my domain? If the computer has the correct certificate, could it then become a managed resource in SCCM 2007 over the internet? Or would the computer resources need to belong to a domain? Does the statement “SCCM 2007 can support internet-based clients” mean that anyone on the internet who has been issued the correct certificate can be a client of my SCCM 2007 server? And finally, can SCCM 2007 run independently of AD and still service internet-based clients? I think my problem may be that I do not sufficiently understand certificate issuing in relation to AD integration… That is a lot of questions in one post. To generally answer your questions: Yes, ConfigMgr can be used to manage client in the internet. No those client don’t have to be part of your domain, they need the correct certificate only. Yes, ConfigMgr requires AD by IBCM don’t need access to it.
