Our company has a 3 tiered heirarchy. The 2nd tiered site would like to break off from the 3rd tiered site, therefor no child site. Tis would mean that the 3rd tiered site would no longer have a parent and would only be reporting to itself.
What concerns should I have? I would imagine that the 3rd tiered site would no longer report any inventory to the main site.

Also, what are the steps in order to perform this on both sites?

Thanks

You want to turn a child primary site into a central primary site?

Hi Jackson9,

The 3rd tiered site would no longer have a parent and would only be reporting to itself only if it's having a database (SQL Server) and the site should not be secondary site earlier.

If the above conditions satisfied, definitely it can work for the particular location as primary site server with unique site code. Pls check sender.log also whether it's communicating to the other site as central or parent site.

Thanks.

In the 2nd tier or even 1st tier you should make sure that all advertisements and packages being distributed to the 3rd tier will be disabled not to have any open jobs. Then go into the admin console of the SMS site server in the 3rd tier and change from "Parent Site" to "Central Site". Then you can decide whether to stay independend or connect to the Central site.
This will only work if the 3rd tier is a primary site having its own database. In case of a secondary site, you can only deinstall SMS and setup a new primary site. A secondary site cannot be a stand-alone site, it cannot be connected to the Central site either.

Thanks

The 3rd tiered site is a primary site with it's own database. So, all I need to do is change the Parent to Central Site in the properties of the site hierarchy. Check the sender log and make sure no traffic is coming thru?

Should all of the objects (collections, packages etc..) from the 1st and 2nd site dissappear in the SMS console at the 3rd tiered site?
