Hello All. The chipset drivers for our Dell GX520 were not updating. After a build, the generic IDE ATA\ATAPI controller drivers were present.

I downloaded the new drivers, added them to the Just In Time package, and redistributed the package to the distribution points.

Now, when I do a build I still see the generic driver present. However, the correct drivers are located on C:\drivers\chipset. If I update the driver and browse to this folder, it updates.

Any suggestions on why they are not upgrading during the build?

I did more digging and located the below.

I started doing some digging. I found the below in setupapi.log.

#I022 Found "PCI\CC_0101" in C:\WINDOWS\inf\mshdc.inf; Device: "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller"; Driver: "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller"; Provider: "Microsoft"; Mfg: "(Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)"; Section name: "pciide_Inst".

[2006/09/11 10:03:49 280.1111 Driver Install]
#-019 Searching for hardware ID(s): intel-27df,primary_ide_channel,*pnp0600
#-018 Searching for compatible ID(s): *pnp0600
#-199 Executing "C:\WINDOWS\system32\setup.exe" with command line: setup -newsetup
#I022 Found "Primary_IDE_Channel" in C:\WINDOWS\inf\mshdc.inf; Device: "Primary IDE Channel"; Driver: "Primary IDE Channel"; Provider: "Microsoft"; Mfg: "(Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)"; Section name: "atapi_Inst_primary".
#I023 Actual install section: [atapi_Inst_primary]. Rank: 0x00000001. Effective driver date: 07/01/2001.
#I022 Found "*PNP0600" in C:\WINDOWS\inf\mshdc.inf; Device: "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller"; Driver: "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller"; Provider: "Microsoft"; Mfg: "(Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)"; Section name: "atapi_Inst".

I also found this in sysprep_before.inf and sysprep_after.inf.

primary_ide_channel=c:\Windows\inf\mshdc.inf
secondary_ide_channel=c:\Windows\inf\mshdc.inf
*pnp0600=c:\Windows\inf\mshdc.inf
*azt0502=c:\Windows\inf\mshdc.inf

Would changing the .inf to c:\drivers\chipset\ correct the problem? It appears to me they are using the Microsoft default driver.

I have not worked with OSD for very long so this is a bit new to me.

When you set up your reference machine, prior to syspreping and capturing it, do you delete the "C:\Windows\INF\oem*.inf and oem*.pnf files?

Thank you for the response.

I took over OSD from someone that is no longer with the company. My guess is that they did not delete the files.
