We are starting to deploy Symantec 11.0 to our SMS clients. The installation file is a single .exe file that is created from the Symantec console. We ended up rolling it into an SMS Installer script. The goal was to reboot the machine after the installation of the Symantec 11.0. For some reason when we set the program options to SMS restarts computer, the computer doesn't actually get restarted. When we run the SMS Installer script from the Run command on a client machine, everything works to include rebooting the computer. When we set the advertisement to Download from distribution point, the client picks it up but sits forever and never runs. But if we change the advertisement to Run from distribution point, then the program installs. The distribution points appear to be ok because we don't have this issue with advertisements beening ran/downloaded. The client cache size is ok.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

What does the execmgr.log say? Did you turning logging on for the application install? If so, what does that log say?

The log indicates that the system is waiting for content.  You have the advert set for download and execute? Do all the DPs have the version 3 of the package?

Force a machine policy update on the system and if possible, try running the program from the Run Advertied Programs on the system.  If it fails to run post your cas.log for review.  What is the mandatory setting for the advert?

The mandatory setting is set to run immediately, advanced client setting is set to download from distribution point. When selecting to run advertised program from the client, there is no software listed in the Run Advertied Programs. When I look at the BITS log I see the download has started and I can see some files listed in the cache folder. Strange.

Silly question, but is the uncompressed package folder present on your site server?  I've seen it happen numerous times with my setup where I've set DP's, but the package never gets sent, although that DP is now listed in the package distribution points list.  When this has happened, I have to manually copy the compressed .pkg file over to the SMSPKG folder and run PreloadPKGOnSite.exe to kick it in gear.  I still don't have a good explanation as to why it sometimes does that.

The download appears to have been canceled.  What does the ccmexec.log and datatransferservice.log say?  The program must be listed in the RAP for the content to be downloaded.  Refresh the RAP view and redownload the machine policy.  Also, as a suggestions, avoid using the mandatory assignment of ASAP.  It can cause some unexplained issues when running the advert.  Use a date/time (multiple if wanting the ability to rerun advertisements when successfully executed) or a reoccurance setting.

Hope this helps.
