I am doing a side-by-side replacement of a SMS 2003 SP2 environment to SCCM SP1 R2.  I deployed the SCCM client via an SMS advertisemnt and the clients appeared to have installed correctly.

All the clients in my primary site are reporting correctly.  I have a secondary site with a proxy management point installed at a remote location.  In this location only about 1/3 of the clients are showing in the SCCM console with an assigned site and approved status.  The other 2/3 are not showing as having the clients installed.

When I looked at the ClientLocation.log the "Assigned Site" is the primary servers site code and the "Current Management Point is" the secondary site server name.

I reviewed the LocationServices.log log and I see 2 warnings on both the clients that are reporting in and the clients not reporting in.

1.  Failed to refresh trusted key information while refreshing mp list.
2.  Unknown task LSProxyMPModificationTask in non-quarantine - ignoring.

When I use the SMS Client Center tool it is show that the clients have the correct site code, management point and proxy management points.

I then checked the ClientIDManagerStartup log.  I did not see any errors and the SMS Trace utility did not show any red lines.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be happening or how can correct the problem.  The machines are not reporting to either the SMS 2003 or the SCCM site at this point.

Thank you in advance for any help.

you might need to verify your boundaries to make sure they are not overlaping.  My biggest problem when i did my side by side was the client certificate, Running the delcert fixed most problems

Is there a way to remotely delete the certificate?  I would like to test without having to remote control into the client.

u can use something like psexec.  I would  say to created a package but sounds like the clients are not manged.  Have you checked one client  and ran the delcert?  If so did that fix it.

I am waiting for a user to get in.  I am on the east coast and all these computers are on the west coast.  I will update the post once I can test to see if this solves the problem.

I know.  Now if only they would leave the computers on so I could remote in and play.  Of couse once SCCM is working we will be using the WOL.

That is one thing that is so strange about this problem.  The remote tools work, the inventory log shows the inventory has completed and the daily advertisments show as having run in the execmgr log.

Deleting the certificate did not work but clicking the discovery button in the advanced tab does correct the problem. I need to find a way to automate this. There are over 500 clients that are having this issue.

I would suggest you to uninstall smsclient on one of the machine and then reinstall again. pls answer the following queries after doing a reinstall-
1. whether the site code is discovered automatically or not?
2. what actions you get?
3. After initiating all actions, what management point you get?
4. what location you get in clientlocation.log?

Thanks.

I ended up using the psexec to run ccmdelcert and then restarted the sms host agent.  The computer then started reporting into the console.

Thank you for your help.
