I'm pretty new to SCCM.  I have created a number of packages/programs and created a collection called "standard apps" that has 6-7 advertisements in it.  The problem I'm having is certain apps are installing before others....ie...outlook live meeting addin is trying to install before office 2007 was installed, and thus it fails the addin install because outlook doesn't exist yet.  Is there a way to specify a collection which advertisements it should install first?  I'm hoping to avoid setting the individual programs properties to install so-and-so package first.  thanks

Possible answer #1: Task Sequences.  Task Sequence that; and just advertise the TS.  (this is new w/ConfigMgr)

Possible answer #2: You could instead use "Run Another Program First".  i.e., for the outlook addin program, set run another program first to require that Office install must have run (successfully) first.  (This is the way we used to have to do this kind of thing w/SMS2003.  Task Sequences are way cooler)

answer #2 is what we are doing now that I would like to avoid.

I like the idea of task sequence, but that seems to be related to OS deployments.....do you have any good links/ideas for creating tasks sequences for program packages?  thanks for help

EDIT*  I just created a custom task sequence and edited it....makes sense.  Thanks for the tip.

EDIT**  Now that I have created a task sequence for software installs, selected the right packages, added the task sequence to a collection, and specified the task sequence advertisement to download all content locally before starting task sequence...I have a new problem on the client end.  The client that is supposed to receive the push receives an icon stating "a new program is available to run" and when you click on this and select the task sequence name listed and click run it just errors roughly saying "the requested software cannot be located, it may be still transferring....blah blah blah".  Now I know it's not transferring for hours since the program is only 11mb in size.

What am I missing to get these task sequences to start the install from the local distro?

thanks

In SMS, we can have the below two methods to set the task sequences for application deployment:

1. Use 'Run another program first' and specify the package that needs to run before the final package.
2. Make a batch script and define the steps and after that select an option "download & execute" in the advertisement.
Thanks.
