I plan to extend my hardware inventory by adding a custom class to sms_def.mof.

This new custom WMI class definition is provided to me by the application vendor.

When this application installs on a desktop/laptop, it does a MOFCOMP to add this class to the local WMI.

Do i need to compile the WMI class definition again on clients after adding the class definition to sms_def.mof???

Usually not. Only if the client's WMI get's corrupt would you need to re-mofcomp. But in general a corrupt WMI is often a bigger issue than just the SMS client not reporting inventory correctly.

Who's the vendor?

So... do you have a tested & working sms_def.mof edit? Accompanying reports that you've tested & know work? That might make a good blog entry/article.
