wasnt aware of an R3 only SP3 in the pipeline. I see these are the new bits. Configuration Manager 2007 R3 gives IT organizations greater insight into and control of their IT systems than ever before: n Integrated power management helps control the costs and environmental impact of power consumption. n Robust mobile device management capabilities give efficient control of Windows Mobile devices. n Enhanced scalability and performance capabilities help reduce the time required to manage IT systems. Anyone installed it yet?

ukmuz Do you need to upgrade the client estate to R3 do get the power management benefits etc? and is there a licencing implication involved in doing that? yes, there is a client hotfix that is required in order to take advantage of the new features. You need to have Software Assurance in order to use R3. As with any licensing question, please contact your licensing vendor.

R3 can be installed ontop of R2 right? No need to uninstall R2 first? Frode.

the Prerequisite:KB977384 will not install on sites with ICP installed. Thus making the jump to R3 impossible for me at the moment. Hopefully MS will publish a KB with ICP support soon. Seeing that R3 has a client patch.. Could that mean there R3 will not work until a R3 ICP is released? Haven't found any info about ICPs and R3 so hopefull there is no need for a ICP. Frode.

I think ICP must mean International Client Packs.

Once assumes that once R3 is installed you have to do the client upgrade before you can even collect baseline data. Just wondering how much data peple are collected before bringing in a powr policy, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month or longer. I would think 2 weeks would be a good guide, would include 2 weekends in the mix.

Hi there I am also getting this error when trying to apply the power settings to a collection. I haven't really thought about what settings to use yet - just wanted to get the thing working first. If you get anywhere in solving the issue, please let me know! Thanks John

Hi there Do you have your SMS Provider on a different server to the site server? I have 2 servers in my primary site and had the Provider on the same server as the site database server. I just did a site reset and moved the Provider back to my site server, tried the power management options in the collection again, and all good now - no error! Thought that might be something to help for you? Regards John

I've got a central site (no clients reporting to it) and two child primaries. Can I apply R3 to one primary and not the other or the central site? (don't ask) Thanks.

cnackers yes, there is a client hotfix that is required in order to take advantage of the new features. Every time I try getting the hotfix from the following link it tells me it is currently unavailable. Does anyone know another source for it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977384 Thanks.

You only need to reboot because of the installation of the update If you don't need to manage power options on your server (probably not) - you don't need to reboot
