Configuration Manager Observational Study: As Microsoft tries to design new features for Configuration Manager we need to collect information about how System Administrators currently use the product to do their job. An effective method of doing this is for researchers to observe System Administrators using the product in their typical work environment. The goal of this research is to learn what System Administrators do and how they use Configuration Manager and other tools to perform their job functions within the context of their daily work setting and interactions. A typical observational study may go for a half or full day, but for most companies we will look to use a half day. The System Administrator will perform their job as they normally would, with breaks, meetings, etc. One, likely two, researcher/designers will observe them while sitting in the background, taking notes. Occasionally we will ask a question about what the System Administrator is working on or who or why they are communicating with a particular person, but we try to be as unobtrusive as possible. We request observation of 1 to 2 system administrators from a US based company for a morning or afternoon observational session. This System Administrator will spend much of his or her time working on Configuration Manager related tasks. Gratuity: For those companies that allow gratuities we are able to offer a software gratuity to participants in thanks of their participation. This gratuity is selected by the participant from a subset of Microsoft consumer software. Contacts: David.Neves@microsoft.com sawebb@microsoft.com
