I created a package and it does show up under the "Software Distrtibution" container in SCCM, however when I choose a machine to deploy the package to and select "Select an exsisting package" nothing shows up in the "Select a package" box?

Did you remember to create a program with the package?  Without the program, it won't display as a package that can be distributed.

Yep that did it, what is the easiest way for me to look at the client logs, I mean can I look at them on SCCM? I normally have to remote into a client and dig up these logs. such as LocationServices.log and ClientLocation.log, I am assuming these logs give me an idea of whats going on with the client and SCCM server relationship?

No need to look for client logs. It's something, you get from site server only. Could you pls check site status message->component status, whether are you getting any critical error or warning under distribution manager. pls let me know.

Another way to solve this is to recreate the package and deploy it to the respected machines.

No messages, everything looks ok, just went to fast through setting up the package, I right clicked a machine and selected the option to deploy the package, that went fine as well, just wanted to know when will it deploy? And in what logs can I see any messages pertaining to this one machine and the package I deployed to it. As of now (about 2 hours after setting up deployment) the machine still does not have the package installed.

***UPDATED***

What is it waiting for?

If you want to access client logs, from the SCCM console (so you don't have to remote into a system), then check out the Right-Click Tools developed by Rick Houchins  http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/rhouchins/archive/2008/04/09/sccm-right-click-tools.aspx

Thanks nickmo, I will check that out, one thing that concerns me now is after I install the client to a machine it does put the site code into the Configuration Manager Properties under the Advanced tab, however if I select Discover, it will error out with "Automatic Site Discovery was unsuccesfull".

This is also happening when I try to use the SMS Client Center tool, it does connect to the SCCM however many of the options I cannot use, getting alot of "Not Found" or Invalid Class" errors when I click on such things as "Show Assigned Advertisements" or "Get Assigned Site" or "Download Policy".

Hmmm.....I don't know anything about the client center tool.  Looks as though it is still in beta, so use it with caution as you would any beta software.

Are all of your clients failing to auto discover their site code?  Have you double-checked that your boundaries are set for the clients?

Interesting, when I try to setup a boundry and select "Active Directory" as the type and select browse the only option I have is "DEFAULT-FIRST-SITE-NAME", Shouldn't my Active Directory be listed there? Or is "DEFAULT-FIRST-SITE-NAME" what I am supposed to select?

To answer your question, I have only installed 3 clients thus far (about 800 to go), and all three are failing to discover the site code, like I stated before, it DOES put the site code in when I deploy the client.

Did you inherit a SCCM site?  Or did you set it up and try to figure it out?  I ask because I sense that it was set up without proper planning.  But I could be very wrong, which is why I ask...

Well you sensed correctly, I jumped into this head first but without much planning, I have some training with this product but for the most part I am learning as I go.

Anyway, once I setup the boundry the clients were able to "discover" the site.

I like the ambition you have in jumping in, but this is one product that you definitely want to take some time to plan.  It is quite complex and has the ability to really mess up your environment if you're not careful.  I would recommend that you take a step back and consider possibly consider rebuilding your server.  Take time to read through the planning guides that Microsoft already has on TechNet and ask clarifying questions as needed.  It will save you much time, confusion, and frustrations.

I am happy with the progress I have made thus far, I plan on doing this a piece at a time, I am only looking to get a few clients installed (which I have) and get some software deployed to them.

The server build went fine, and after getting SCCM to work with Active Directory I have seen how complex this product really is.

to check the program/package status, go for logs only - execmgr.log can give you a better view on the deployment status. Sometimes, "waiting for content" message comes while machine access package from a remote dp.

Thanks.

You can also check for CAS.log which will provide you info regarding DP.

i.e. machine accesses package from which DP.
