Hi,

I have a few of the new Dell E6500 Laptops which are a Core 2 Processor, checked the BIOS to confirm. For some reason it is showing as a Intel Pentium III Xeon processor in SMS. Has anyone come accross this before?

Thanks,

Michael

Same thing here, WMI reports "Intel Pentium III Xeon" when querying Win32_Processor.Name on a Dell E5400 running XPSP3.

As slecluyse mentions, SMS pulls that data out of WMI on the machine.  I found a fairly decent description of Pentium III Xeon here.  It sounds like there were two different cores for that name.

The PIII Xeon was introduced in 1999, so why would it be showing as the processor on a new 2008 model laptop?

I don't have any Dell E6500 to look at; your best bet is to contact Dell and see what their explanation is.
