I'm trying to deploy a regfile as part of an application. In the past, before we used Vista, I could do this with the simple command "regedit /s regfile.reg" in the package. Now, the application runs with no problems, but the regfile does not affect my registry. What I am trying to do is create a new system dsn on the client computer. The package is run with administrative rights, with a domain admin account. Doubleclicking on the regfile imports the keys exactly as it is supposed to. I've also tried various vbscripts found on the net, but same result, i.e nothing. Putting the command in a .cmd file didn't help either. My guess is that it is something related to Vista's security settings, but why would it work when doubleclicking the reg file?

Do you have User Account Control (UAC) turned off and have restarted at least once after doing so?

Not an official Microsoft link, but have you tired the methods outlined here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/116415-regedit-enable-disable.html.  Specifically the group policy.

UAC is turned on, could this really be the reason? The regedit tool is not disabled, its setting is "not configured". Will try to disable UAC, but if that works our whole policy about having it turned on on our clients goes out the window because of this simple problem

Did you set the advertisement to download first and then install?  I've found I always have to do it this way when running batch files or registry imports.  Note though this basis is on XP not Vista.

Yes, the advertisement is set to download first and then install. Have done that mistake several times and have finally learned

Try using "reg import <Your reg file.reg> and see if that command makes a difference
