I'm looking into the desired configuration management, and I'm wondering how the registry values relate to the fields that you have options for when creating a desired configuration item. For example i'm trying to see who doesn't have cache mode turned on. In the registry the key is a REG_BINARY, but the options for validating agaist are String, Date/TIme, Integer, Floating Point, and  Version. None seam to apply, anyone know how to check reg values?

Also, anyone have any cool things they've done in desired configuration management, just wondering, since i'm just getting into it now?

Integer should work for validating a REG_BINARY value.

Can you post the registry key and value itself?

The key is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\NBME\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a

The binary value is
00036601=84 11 00 00

I know outlook has a bunch of different values, and it depends on the user having the same profile name, but this is more of a test to see what I can do. So i put Integer Equals 84110000?

Also, if i put multiple values in the validation tab, that is an "or" right? For example, if i say "equals 1" then error on the first one, and "equals 2" then error on the 2nd one, and the actual value is 1, will it be non compliant because it doesn't =2?

Thanks

Yes you would use an integer for the type.

If you use an or statement it only has to equal one value not both, if you want it to check for both values you should use multiple validataions.

I would post an example but I am travelling at the moment and don't have access to a ConfigMgr console at this moment.  If this doesn't work or you want me to post an example let me know.

Regards,
Anthony
