I've run into something that seems a little odd. It appears that the distribution point does not make all the files available in the SMSPKG folder from the source directory. I am trying to test deploying Visio 2003 package and the source directory has the application files and lots of .CAB files (same as the cd media). It appears that everything get copied over to the DP SMSPKG folder EXCEPT the .CAB files. Files were copied over from a CD and the attributes were cleared and files aren't hidden or read-only. I've "refreshed the distribution point" from within SCCM and it did the same thing.... It also does not copy over the autorun.inf and sku053.xml file.

Any ideas why everything gets copied over except for the .CAB files?

My first instinct is to check your anti-virus rules.  Are .cab files being blocked by anti-virus?  If so, you'd likely need to add exclusions for your smspkg & smspkgX$ folders to your antivirus policy on your DP servers.

The .cab file extension is listed in the Trend scan exclusion list and I have also added the directory exclusions for the smspkge & smssig folders on the dp server. It still skipped over the cab files .

The SMS Distribution Manager processed the two packages and the SMSPKGE folder content changed, but still does not match the Package Source Directory content.

Ok I figured it out.

If the Package data source is set to "Use a compressed copy of the source directory" it does not copy all the files for me. I changed it to "Always obtain files from the source directory" and after I updated the distribution point all the files were copied over this time.
