I seem to have run into a small snag trying to make a registry change to a few HKCU keys.

I used the script found at http://www.myitforum.com/articles/11/view.asp?id=10825 and am able to submit a registry change to all registry hives correctly as long as there are no users logged in.  The article states it can be run with or without a user logged in but I can't get it to work correctly with a user logged in.

I have to run the script with administrative rights since users are not in the admin group and would only be able to change their own registry but not load the other registry hives to make the change.  If I run the script with administrative rights on a computer with a user logged in, it works correctly except for the currently logged in user.  I'm guessing this is because the script cannot load that registry hive since it is already in use?

Is there anyway to bypass this so that I can run this script whether a user is logged in or out?  I'm on a deadline of when I have to have this key added by and it has to run on a few thousand computers and there are many machines where the users do not log out.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I see the issue; the hive is locked for that logged in user.  How about two programs, two ads?  1 no user logged in, and 1 w/the user logged in, and a quick reg import or something to hit up logged in user?  You could probably expire the logged-in-user advert in a week or so; the no logged-in user one should have gotten other computers by then.
