Good day,

Our newly setup SCCM SP1 R2 server on a virtual Server 2008 is still not processing hardware or software inventory data. We did a side-by-side upgrade and updated all the Advanced Clients to SCCM via Push Install.  All my reports and the resource explorer are blank.

I've checked the InventoryAgent.log on a client and it starts and collects data and also states that the report has been successfully sent to the MP (Inventory: Successfully sent report. Destination:mp:MP_HinvEndpoint, ID: {D80A55FF-906F-463A-91DC-196E22E71B5C}, Timeout: 80640 minutes MsgMode: Signed, Not Encrypted InventoryAgent 11/19/2008 1:26:15 AM 3748 (0x0EA4))

I've also checked the dataldr.log on the server. It only mentions some PC names with bad MIFs, but no "regular" ones being processed.
Any clues? Other than repeating the below and the occasional bad MIF log, dataldr.log does not show anyhting…

Done that. Still, resource explorer doesn't show anything. The clients in the collection (All Systems) are correctly assigned and approved.

HW inventory agent is enabled and scheduled to run every 12 hours (we only have ~100 clients).
SW inventory agent is enabled and scheduled to run every 24 hours.

We upgraded end of September.

The logs are quite large... Can I send them by email?

Thx for your time!

Can you explain your sms hierarchy to me?. It will help me to understand the infrastructure and I can provide you better solution.

Dear Bachermann,
Instead of sending me email, pls send the logs on the portal suggested by rodtrent.

Thanks.

the hierarchy is really simple

Single Site, 1 Server

servers in our branch offices are used as distribution points (server share) only, with no other functions.

I checked the logs and logs are OK. There is no issue found in respect to logs.
1. Please schedule your software and hardware inventory for every 1hour ,
2. delete the all the files listed in badmifs folder and orphans folder
3. delete the all the files listed in badSinv folder and orphans folder

Please wait for next 3-4 hrs after doing the above functions.
Thanks.

OK, did this a couple of hours ago. There was only one file in the badSinv folder, the Orphans and badMIFs folders were empty.

I've now updated the collection membership again and checked Resource Explorer on a couple of machines. They're still empty.

It seems that the HW/SW reports never arrive at the server or something, even though the client says that it was successfully sent.

There are some couple of things, what I would like to know:
1. Are you getting these two Actions: Hardware inventory cycle; and software inventory cycle on the client's configmgr properties?
2. What you are getting in ccmexec.log and inventory.log?

if not, there may be an issue between the management point and the SQL Server computer (SCCM site database).

Please confirm, once checked.
Thanks.

Yes, the hardware and software inventory cycle actions are available and I can kick them off. SCCM & SQL Server 2005 SP2 are running on the same machine. I think that for some reason, the collected inventory data never arrives at the MP, but I have no way of verifying this...

the ccmexec.log shows the following errors, the rest of the log is OK.
System task 'SMSSHA_Shutdown' returned error code 0x80040200. CcmExec 21/11/2008 08:43:35 3924 (0x0F54)

Pls check the MP_hinv.log on the management point to verify whether the inventory has been processed. (hint: search for the netbios name of the client).// It will provide information to the server end

OK checked that. C:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\Logs\MP_Hinv.log hasn't been updated since Nov 5 and repeatedly shows the below error. Some PC names show up in this log, but Resource Explorer is also empty for them.

Thanks for your efforts and time!!

Hi,

As per my knowledge, clients are still trying to communicate to the the management point with the previous configurations as SMS 2003. I would finally suggest you to pls uninstall the management point then give some time to replicate the changes in AD also and then reinstall management point.

After reinstalling MP, wait for some hours and then uninstall sms client from one of the machine and install SCCM client manually.(For testing purpose)
and initiate the actions.

It will definitely work for you and can resolve the issue.

Thanks and Have a good luck.

I could not agree more

Will try reinstalling the management point. Do I have to remove the contents of the System Management container i.e. the published MP in Active Directory manually or will this go away with the uninstallation?

Again, thank you very much for your investigations!

Hi,
Once you uninstall the MP, wait for some time till the changes replicated  to AD. Reinstall the MP and the same information would be automatically published in Systems Management container. No need to do any thing with the container.

Please confirm once it is done.
