Hi everyone,

hardware reports from clients are not being added to the DB. The Data Loader gets the reports, and then rejects it as being outdated.

Here is an excerpt from the log:
Thread: 16016 will use GUID GUID:0F2E4E28-EAB6-4C29-A49D-AD024BB7F45E
Processing Inventory for Machine: PC-E-IT00598   Version 31.0  Generated: 11/04/2008 09:28:42
CMachineSource::InsertMachine - machine info is resynced data (ie: MIF is a full/resync report).

Done: Machine=PC-E-IT00598(GUID:0F2E4E28-EAB6-4C29-A49D-AD024BB7F45E) code=4 (1935 stored procs in XHB0DUCT7.MIF)

I get this message for around 1500 client computers. The machines appear in the console, however, they have never been able to report any inventory, in other words, Resource Explorer shows no info. This message appears right from the get-go after some new clients have been installed. The rest of the clients are fine.

I'd appreciate any hints around this.

Regards

Have you try forcing a full inventory? You will find tools on www.myitforum.com to help you do this remotely if you don't already have them installed, yet.

Yep, I have. Also uninstalled a client that has this problem and reinstalled it. After the Discovery Invetory, it performs a Hardware Inventory (full), but has the same problem.

This message is because of GUID duplication - stemming from imaging. The age old reason. To easily see if this is your issue, open the SMSCFG.INI file on the client in question (C:\Windows\SMSCFG.INI).

Take the GUID in the SMSCFG.INI file and replace it with the GUID in the statement below and then run the statement in SQL:
Select Netbios_Name0, SMS_Unique_Identifier0 from System_Disc where SMS_Unique_Identifier0 = 'GUID:5D0BF85C-974C-4F22-A0A1-74ED56BC39CB'

Note if the NetBIOS listed in the results are the same as the client computer's, if not, you have duplication.

I wrote a few scripts to update the clients remotely, and while this is running, my installed clients collection is growing rapidly.

Thanks to everyone for looking, especially Garth
