Hi

I'm working my way through the build and capture task sequence in SCCM with the aim of making a Vista reference image.  I've got to the part where it asks for the location of the sysprep package and now I'm kind of stuck.  I copied the sysprep folder from my Vista PC to a network share and tried to make a new application package from that but it doesn't feel like this is the right way to do it.  Can anyone please guide me through this process?

Cheers!

For the Sysprerp package, you do not need any programs.  The purpose of this package is to make the files available to the task in the task sequence.  Thus, just set up the package pointing the source files option to wherever you stored the sysprep folder and then configure the distribution points.

If jsandys doesn't answer your question, what phase/part of your build/capture are you needing this for?

If you've captured a Vista .WIM and need to use an answer file when deploying it, you need to create an SCCM Package composed of the desired "unattend.xml" file (not the "sysprep.inf" file - that's for XP), and then use that in the Task Sequence.

And I'm sure you know this, but Sysprep is included in Windows Vista at: %WINDIR%\System32\Sysprep

Thanks for your replies.

I'm trying to get BitLocker working as part of the deployment task sequence.  I'm currently using the install.wim off the DVD rather than a captured image and I've found that names the system drive as D: rather than C:.  I'm thinking that has something to do with BitLocker failing so I thought I'd capture a new image and deploy that instead as I read somewhere it will install to C:

I ran the Build and Capture task sequence wizard and hit the section where it asks for a sysprep package.  That's where I came unstuck.  Now having read your replies I'm going to try capturing a sysprepped reference image using imagex and then deploy it with an unattend.xml file in the task sequence.

Does that sound like a plan?  Am I on the right track?

The D drive thing is a known "issue" with the Vista wim that was not caught until after RTM; from what I've read it is because they actually built the final production system that they created the WIM from with the D drive as the system and boot drive.  Thus you must create a custom Wim if this is not a desired result.
