Status: offline 		Hey everyone, anyone out there know of a nice way I could identify if software is being installed from SMS or from another location? We have a few help desk persons that don't like SMS and keep trying to install software from cd's or network paths, which causes a real mess.

Status: offline 		I guess you could check
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Mobile Client\Software Distribution\Execution History\System
for packages that have been executed by the SMS client.  If it wasn't installed by SMS then it must come from another source.

Status: offline 		You could take a look in Add/Remove registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall 

You will have an entry for each app, there is an install source value you could look at, as long as you have the sms_def.mof set to collect the info.

Status: offline 		are you on SMS 2003 SP3? The Asset Intelligence stuff shows the exact path of software installed, some useful info there.
