The Problem
You have implemented the Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) as your SMS vulnerability scanner and have used the Distribute Software Updates Wizard (DSUW) to build update packages based on the ITMU scan results. You would really like to use the same patch packages that you advertise to your deployed systems on a newly built system (or an image template machine). You’d rather not wait for SMS to update collections and advertise the patches to the new system because it will be vulnerable until then. Unfortunately, running patchinstall.exe outside of an SMS advertisement doesn’t appear to do anything and no patches are installed.
