What is the trick to getting the Intel Mobile Chipset Driver to install on a Dell Latitude during the Auto Apply Drivers TS. I've got all drivers sorted out except for this one. Without it I am left with an unrecognized SMBus Controller in device manager. It looks like the chipset package can not be imported into the OSD drivers node. Is this something the I will need to install via a aoftware package?

Thanks

Is this for the new E-series Latitude? Vista or XP or both?

If so, I found that Dell has listed under Applications (in their Driver download area for the E6400/E6500) something called ControlPoint.
There are 5 or so control points, and there is a driver and several applications in this section.  I could not get the  ControlPoint Driver
to install during the Auto Apply Drivers part of the OS either.  So I created a package and program, made it available for TS for it and added
a section to install it as Software toward the end of the TS.  We found the silent install options listed in the information about the driver
(on the download site) and did some testing.  This is what worked:  setup.exe /s /f1 setup.iss

Hope this is helpful.

I will look into that, though this is a Latitude D620.

Thanks.

Ah, not the problem then.  We have OSD TS working for that model as well.
Have you installed the Dell NSS Software?  Similar deal, create a package and install software at the end of the TS.

So I've downloaded the ControlPoint Driver software for this same issue and am getting a cryptic error in my Task Sequence.

Right when the program starts to install with the above command line parameter, the entire TS stops and wants to reboot the system in 15 minutes. (If I choose continue on error it will go through fine and finish the rest of the task.)

The curious thing is, if I advertise this software normally, it will run and work with the same Program settings. And yes, I have checked the "allow this program to be run in an install software task" box. No dice, same error.

If I hit F8 and net use a mapped drive to the file share and run the exact same command line while in the PE environment amidst the TS error message, it will actually install as well.

If I do the use mapped drive setting to run the program, it still fails.

If I replace the Program command line with a batch file that runs the command line, it actually just hangs at the task as if the batch file hasn't told it there was an error running the setup.exe inside of it and taskmgr says setup.exe is running and sitting there. Again, if I run that batch file after hitting F8, it installs fine (even while its hung.) I'm stumped.

The error is "Unspecified Error 0x80042000"

Yes, we noticed that it actually spawns a couple of additional installs; .NET 2.0 and C++ redistributable install.   So, we put it at the end of the Software Install portion of our TS (which is at the end anyway), and in the Program for the package we used the following settings:   Under Requirements: Disk space: 150mb Run time:  30 min (it doesn't take that long, but did not want to be too close either)
Increasing the disk space and time is what got it working for us.
Give that a try.   Jeff

No luck :( Again, it hangs with the batch file, immediately errors out with the explicit setup command line arguments.

I'm not running it from a batch file either... just put the setup options in the Program for the Package - setup.exe /s /f1 setup.iss
Probably not related to the problem you are having, but to make sure this only ran on my E-Series Latitudes, I also added an option in the TS section using WMI query to check for the model...
Are you adding anything to the path in the program, or just setup.exe /s /f1 setup.iss?  Have you tried that instead of using a batch file?

Haven't tried adding a path. How would you suggest I do it?

And yes, I use the WMI query for that as well. Very nifty feature.

Acutally the key is to NOT have a path - since it is relative to where the source data is located - the Program setting starts form there; so on the 'command line' entry you just need to have the setup.exe with any options.  In this case - setup.exe /s /f1 setup.iss  Sounds like you are already doing that - or are you using a batch file instead?
Check the spacing on the options; there is a space between each element.  In the Dell documentation in appears that there is no space between the f1 (that is a 'one') and the setup.iss I think, but it doesn't work unless you have a space there.

Yep, I have spaces there.

Again, the curious thing is it works when the software is advertised just fine - but not when it is part of the TS.

Gold. Had to turn on logging for some reason. Explanation here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3462718&SiteID=17

Here's the command line I did:

setup.exe /s /f2"C:\Windows\Temp\InstallLogDell.Log"

Seems like this is common for InstallShield apps that need users logged in.
