I have a WSUS server that has been up and running for over a year and it runs with any issues. I have just installed SCCM on a different server.  I would like to use SCCM to manage my WSUS server, but I am not sure how I would set this up.  Would I just add a new site server which would be the WSUS server or do I just add a new role for my SCCM server and point it to the WSUS server.  Also is there any special changes that I would need to make on my current WSUS server to make this happen.

I also have the WSUS console installed on my SCCM server.

Thanks in advance.

This should get you started in the right direction:

I guess my question is, do I make my seperate WSUS server a site system and if that is the case what needs to be installed on it.  Or do I just add the role to my existing SCCM site server.  This is where I am confussed, and all of the documentation that I have read does clear this up.

At a high level:

To use SCCM to manage your WSUS server you need to...
1.  Install the WSUS admin console on your SCCM server (if not already there)
2.  Add the SCCM server account to the local Administrators group of the WSUS server.
3.  Add a new Site System>Server.
4.  Enter the info for your WSUS server
5.  Check the Software Update Point Role.

Does that help?

That realy helps me alot, thank very much.  Last thing I have read that I have to delete my existing metedata on my current WSUS server before I can manage  it through SCCM, is that true.

I dont believe this to be the case.  I did not do that in my lab and things seem to be working just fine but I cant say with 100% confidence.  ;)
