We have an in-house application that we are developing for building new target machines. This application is using the SDK to import the computer information and sets it up to PXE to run a custom OS install. At the end of the custom OS install we install the SCCM agent.  This is where we seem to run into a problem because this causes a second resource record to be created and the original one that we started with is set to be obsolete.
We’ve been trying a work around for this by creating a smscfg.ini file with the GUID of the original resource.  This seems to work for the first time the machine is build but when initiating a PXE rebuild by Clearing the last PXE Advertisement we get an additional resource being created and the old one is being set to obsolete.
Has anyone else seen this issue and why does SCCM do this with installing its’ agent?

Hum, let me try here. There is a place within the Tasks sequence that allows you to specify to install a Configuration Mananger client. Did you use this option, or are you just kicking off a last action with Tasks sequence?

What version of configuration manager are you using? There laster version has a option what is called Unknown object support that you can advertise a OSD Advert to.

We are currently running SP1 beta.

We are using a custom PE image that has a custom script to install the OS. So all we're using the task sequence for is to PXE Advertise it to target machines.

One thing that we found out is that we're running in mixed mode instead of native. I'm waiting to get a PKI certificate setup so we can switch to native mode and will retest this client registration behavior.
