I have a problem I have been trying to solve for a couple weeks with no luck, and need help.

The problem is that once my image has finished installing on my test PC via SMS deployment, the applications that I have chosen to install from the System State Restore option are not installing.  The System Restore dialog box appears for around 10 minutes and then disappears to the logon screen, but after logging in, my anti-virus and MS office suite are not there.  Under SMS, each package is set to install whether a user is logged in or not and add admin rights under the Network Tab on the Image package.

I use BDD 2007 to build my image to the point where I can capture it using SMS CD.  The sysprep file will join my domain with no problems.

What am I missing?  Is there a log file I can look at to find out what is holding the apps back from installing?  Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen that happen if the first installation in the list is not waiting properly and is running an MSI. It would install, but all subsequent installs would fail until it really finished. That is due to the one at a time limitation of Windows Installer. Is there anything running before the two installations that you mentioned?

No, those are the only 2 apps I'm trying to install at this time.  I've tried them both in different orders with no luck.

Is the installation log for either of the applications getting created? If so, then we know that state restore process is at least initiating the installation. Maybe the first installation is hanging and doesn't complete; therefore, the second one never even gets started.

I almost forgot; regarding BDD log files:

I feel like the problem is due to the Admin rights not being able to access the SMSPKG$ folder during the State Restore process.  The computer has joined the domain at this time.  I've added the admin rights (that are good) to the network tab on the Image package and using the most current Deployment CD.  I wish there was a log file for this process, but can't find anything under CCM folder.  The log files from the BDD build do not help me at this point.

The log files should be found in the minint folder that is created during the OSD process.  Are you saving the logs after the process is complete?  The process deletes the minint folder after it completes.

Thanks for the tip.  Hopefully it will help me figure out what's going on.

"Under normal circumstances, once an OSD deployment is complete the Minint structure it used to aid deployment is deleted. However, if for troubleshooting purposes you need to keep it, create a file at the root of the minint folder called archive_osd.sms. When the archive_osd.sms file is present, then the minint folder structure will be kept. "
