I have been using Nightwatchman for 7 years (back to 3.0). The most recent releases 5.x are not shutting down my systems. When it is supposed to power off I get the message "It is now safe to shut off your computer"
Registry is set to: Shutdownaction=Normal Logoff action=passive.
If I change the Logoff action to force, and stay logged on, the sytem locks at the scheduled time instead of powering off.
I amtesting on three different (COMPAQ) hardware platforms. all are ACPI compliant.

Using Nightwatchman 5.6 on XP SP2 (Shutdownaction is set to Normal)
When I set Logoffaction to Active I get the same results (except of course I can cancel the shutdown).
logged on and working, "Active" and "Force" lock the computer after countdown
If locked, nothing happens for all three settings
If I am logged off, all three actions shut down the computers but they do not go completely down, I get the "It is now safe to shut off your computer" message.

OK... been tossing this about among my peers for some added ideas,... at first I was thinking "bug" but now not so sure...

If the computer is locking then we're thinking that one of our scripts is producing a non zero exit… which should log out to %systemroot%\temp. at the least his nwm.log should provide more detail as to why it’s failing to shutdown.

If you're getting the “It’s now safe to turn off your computer message” then I’d say these are some really old computers... there should be a bios setting that just shuts them down. I forget what it’s called but I remember you had the ability to just go down.

OTOH, if these were shuttinfg down properly with older version, then this last one may not hold water... if true, what was the earlier version where all was working properly?

Current working version in our environment is 4.0.1.2931
Working on COMPAQ 733 and newer
I will peruse the BIOS for any power management settings that might be disabled.
Messages in the nwm log:
6/9/2009 07:15:17: (00000001) WARNING: Unable to determine if session is locked or not because terminal services not running, aborting shutdown to prevent data loss.
6/9/2009 07:15:17: (00000001) Warning: Logoff failed Unspecified error

Looked for but did not see a %systemroot%\temp.log

sorry - misstated the log location... shudbe in %system%... typically ends up in C:\temp...

sounds like you want to be in touch with Support if this drags on.

I didn't see anything in the BIOS that was out of the ordinary and c:\temp was void of any logs that could help.
I will take your advice and open a support call with 1e, I can send them full logs and whatever other data they require. Thanks for the help!
