This is a fresh install of SCCM SP1 on a server 2008 box. I have generated a WIM image and successfully deployed it using the x86 boot image, but when I create a new task sequence involving OSD, it always errors out saying "task sequence cannot be run because the program files for SGT00001 (the x86 boot image) cannot be located on a distribution point."

The first WIM I generated was a capture off of an existing workstation with apps and settings installed. It captured fine and successfully pushes down the image on new and existing hardware.

The second attempt, I'm using the 'build and capture an image' wizard and using the XPSP2 source files to create a clean install. I've packaged the sysprep files and the configMRG client and they are available. When I go to run the task sequence, it errors out with the above error.

Why would it work fine on the first OSD task sequence, but error out on subsequent task sequences? This is an interesting problem, and I'm curious to see what the solution is.

Thanks!

Double-check to make sure that SGT00001 is not your x64 boot image.  The x64 boot image must also be made availabe to deploy to 64 bit hardware even when you are loading a 32-bit OS.

Per your suggestion, I distributed the x64 boot image (double checked and it was SGT00002), and still no luck...

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Are both boot images availabe on the PXE DP?  Try deleting the SGT00001 package from the PXE DP and then readding it.  I've seen packages get corrupted before.  Did you check the status of the packages?

I am currently not using PXE boot yet, and am using bootable media to retrieve the advertisements.

I have verified that the x86 package is in the DP, and is fully functional with my first TS. Any other TS can not 'see' the installation files and errors out.

I'll try deleting the files and redistributing them to the DP again and see if that helps.

I'm open to all suggestions, as I'm pretty new at this and I may have screwed up a step or two on SCCM install/configuration.

Thanks!

Deleted x86 boot package, re-'installed' it, and it still fails with any of my other task sequences. However, I just tested it again with my first task sequence, and it works like a charm.

Do you have the debug switch on for the boot image so that you can press F8 and review the log files?  Have you integrated the network driver for the hardware into the boot image?  If so, did you integrate the Vista network drivers and not the XP ones (the boot images use Windows PE 2.0 which is based on Vista)?

I was poking around in my settings for the packages and managed to solve this little problem with a single checkbox. Our environment is currently SMS2003, and I'm bringing up the SCCM side-by-side. I hadn't set up the boundries for SCCM, so the checkbox for 'When no local distribution point is available, use a remote distribution point' needed to be checked before the client would point to the correct DP.

Apparently the 'Duplicate' advertisement action doesn't duplicate every setting, as it didn't mark that checkbox on any duplicated TS', and thus wouldn't work.

Thanks for all the help!
