Hi

Something strange I noticed, if I change the interaction with the DP from Donwnload content to direct access content
the sequence Format Disk gets skipped and system starts to wipe my C-drive,
if I change it back to to "download content" the format sequence gets executed correctly...???

I don't see the relation between changing the DP interaction and formatting a disk... anyone?

Nico

I'm confused, and since nobody else has chimed in.... What's the difference in your post between "Format Disk" and "wipe my C-drive"? A wipe is a format....

And if it's changing something wouldn't that be because if you're telling it to download the OS image package from the DP before installing it, it can't wipe out your hard disk drive because that's where the content is download to...

Of course, that could all be way off base, because like I said, I'm a little confused by your post...

Hi Rbennett

I'm confused to:

First of all the difference between format and wipe

"The difference between formatting and wiping is that the first action simply erases the data, while the second one rewrites it with random patterns of data. This overwriting makes it impossible for undelete software to recover the information."

I'm confused becasue

Download content from DP - should wipe your disk -> in my case it gets formatted
Access content directly - should format your disk -> in my caste it gets wiped

I am NOT saying that what I am about to say is correct, but I don't agree with your bullets.

If the sequence can directly install from a network drive (Access Content Directly mode) then it does not need a formatted local drive to store the data.  Thus, it could simply wipe and load.  Your comments suggests that the Access Content Directly mode should "format" then proceed.  Why?  All it has to do is start copying to the "wiped" disk.

By contrast, if the content must be downloaded before installing, the local drive must be formatted first, to make room.  Thus, it should format and then copy.  Your comment suggests that the Download Content mode should simply wipe and go.  Technically, I don't see why this could not happen.  The source files could be copied to a "wiped" disk and then installed.

Again, I do not know what is supposed to happen, but it seems to me that:

Download Content - should\could format your disk or otherwise wipe space - then download - then install

Access Content - should\could wipe your disk - then install from network

Hi Rjarrett

I don't mean that download content should format all the time!
Everything depence of course of you set the format sequence or not

But what is happening for me is that the format sequence is getting skipped when I set "Direct access content",
if set it to "download from DP" the format sequence gets executed correctly.

So that's the problem I have today, I want to set the advertisement of my Task Sequence to "Direct Access content" but I don't want that my format sequences get skipped.

Nico

Have you checked out the settings in the Task Sequence by opening the Install Operating System | Partition Disk 0 then selecting the Default (Primary) volume and clicking the edit button.  I am wondering if it sees that the disk already meets your requirements (e.g. primary drive, 100%, NTFS, etc.) that it simply wipes and goes.

Have you tried checking the "quick format" option or making some other tweak to see if you can trigger the formatting?

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the suggestions you made, in the screenshots you can see how my Partition Sequence is configured.

Once again sequence works fine but gets skipped if I change the DP settings to access the content directly.
