I am planning to deploy office 2007 to for our company I am a little bit confused on config.xml and why its need.  I just a create a .msp file would that be sufficient enough for the installation?  Can someone please explain why config.xml is need. Thx

not sure if you have seen this. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179195.aspx   We currently use the Office Custimization Tool  to custuize this

As hcortez463 pointed out, you should use the Custimization Tool.  Any changes that you make to the .xml file trump any changes that you make using the Custimization Tool.

The config.xml file does have other settings that can't be used in the msp file such as the SETUP_REBOOT.  That is the main setting I use, the rest is in the msp.

Actually, you can add any custom lines such as the SETUP_REBOOT command into the msp as well.  In the "Modify Setup properties" section of the Office Customization Tool, you can add the following:

Property name = SETUP_REBOOT
Value = Never

This works for any other supported command as well.
