Hey all:

I have one particular client that does not seem to want to pull any advertisements. I have checked its IP address and it is 1 number away from another computer in the same site, which is pulling advertisements fine. Both clients were set to receive the same application, but only one is pulling down the ad.

Comparisons between the two machines:

ClientLocation.log - identical... except for date/time stamps
CcmExec.log - similar except for the below on the troubled client:

BEGIN ExecuteSystemTasks('Logon') CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 4168 (0x1048)
Invoking system task 'FileBITSLogon' via ICcmSystemTask2 interface. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 4016 (0x0FB0)
Invoking system task 'ExecmgrLogon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 4016 (0x0FB0)
Invoking system task 'SchedulerLogon' via ICcmSystemTask2 interface. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 4016 (0x0FB0)
Invoking system task 'SrcUpdateLogon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 1228 (0x04CC)
Invoking system task 'PatchUIMonitorLogon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 1228 (0x04CC)
Invoking system task 'DTSLogon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 928 (0x03A0)
Invoking system task 'PolicyEvaluator_Logon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 928 (0x03A0)
Triggered update of logged-on user settings CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 928 (0x03A0)
Invoking system task 'LSLogon'. CcmExec 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 928 (0x03A0)

execmgr.log - trouble pc only logging logon/logoff entries; working pc has no entry since the last install.
LocationServices.log - differences below

Troubled computer:
Attempting to retrieve proxy MP from AD LocationServices 10/8/2008 7:11:26 AM 928 (0x03A0)
Current AD site of machine is London LocationServices 10/8/2008 7:11:27 AM 928 (0x03A0)
Retrieved Proxy Management Point from AD: [London Secondary] LocationServices 10/8/2008 7:11:27 AM 928 (0x03A0)

Working computer:
Attempting to retrieve default management point from AD LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:52 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Retrieved Default Management Point from AD: [London Parent Primary] LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:52 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Persisting the default management point in WMI LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:52 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Persisted Default Management Point Location locally LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:52 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Attempting to retrieve proxy MP from AD LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:52 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Current AD site of machine is London LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:53 PM 4400 (0x1130)
Retrieved Proxy Management Point from AD: [London Secondary] LocationServices 10/8/2008 2:14:53 PM 4400 (0x1130)

PolicyAgent.log - seem identical

The problem seems to reside in the MP and Proxy MP's as indicated in the LocationServices.log, but I cannot seem to resolve the issue. I have performed the following:
  • Repaired the affected client
  • Rebooted the affected client
  • Removed SMS from the affected client, deleted directories and cleared registry - then reinstalled client
  • Deleted cache and downloaded policies.

It would seem that SMS functions are working as I can pull inventories fine, etc... just cannot get an advertisement to go down. Can anyone give me some suggestions - I'm missing something easy I'm sure... looked at it way too long.

NIC settings are identical on both machines. Machine in question was freshly imaged a month ago so it should not be a "trashed" up workstation.

and my packages are restricted to our standard, which is SP2.

At least I know where the problem lies. Thanks for your suggestions.
