Those who are just getting into downloading, installing and configuring our Power & Patch Management Pack tools are often faced with "Where exactly do I start? There are a lot of moving parts in here!" To provide a little light on the subject, here is a brief overview of the process. Note well this is in no way intended to replace the official product documentation Product Install Order for PPMP with CfgMgr Download all software from here: http://www.1e.com/DownloadList.aspx?Product=powerandpatchmanagement&Section=powerandpatchmanagement the NightWatchman Console provides ease of administration around the NWM power policy management as well as setting and applying shutdown schedules to select machines. It also facilitates creation of location and organization breakdown of client systems Web WakeUp is a tool to allow a specially crafted link to be added to your corporate intranet to allow home users to wake up their work system at night after a NWM shutdown. This procedure assumes you are installing in a lab (recommended), and have a std SMS/SCCM primary server with SQL and IIS there with some test clients. It also assumes you are following the respective Installation Guide and meet all prereqs for each product. PPMP Power and Patch Management Pack (1E Wakeup and NightWatchman products) AFR Agility Framework Reporting WU 1E WakeUp NWM NightWatchman PPack Product Pack (one each for WU and NWM) 1. Install Agility Framework (AFR) first (SQL2005) 2. Install WakeUp and NightWatchman Product Packs next (this adds these report options into AFR web page) 3. Install WakeUpSrv.msi on SMS\SCCM server a. Use CUSTOM install option b. Accept all defaults until you see the ENABLE REPORTING screen c. Check Reporting, and enter NetBIOS name of the AFR server even if it’s the local server d. Also tick the box to Create Health Collections e. Continue to end of install/finish f. Confirm that SMS/SCCM now has a “1E Health” collection with a number of subcollections 4. Deploy agents any way you see fit: Manually on each test client directly using install wizard; or, via SMS/SCCM pkg/pgm a. If SMS/SCCM, create std Pkg/pgm(s) with basic/minimal cmd line options (note: be sure you use PROPER msiexec syntax as seen in the Install guide) i. Msiexec.exe /i WakeUpAGT.msi HEALTH=ON REPORTINGSERVER=<afr server NetBIOS name> /qn ii. Msiexec /i NightWatchman50.msi REPORTING=ON REPORTINGSERVER=<afr server NetBIOS name> ALLUSERS=1 /qn This will deploy NWM in the so-called reporting only mode, in that no shutdowns are set or scheduled, but will simply start reporting data to AFR once installed (Allow 24 hrs to elapse before you see any data in AFR reports) Likewise, it installs WakeUp in the multi-agent mode (agents installed on all clients), ready to start processing wakeups issued from adverts on the test server; and, to report their health status to AFR, and from AFR, over into the Health collections on SMS/SCCM server (see clients with a failed health status populated into the corresponding collection in SMS/SCCM). Optionally, install NWM Console on AFR server (requires DOT NET v3.5 SP1) to ease admin of NWM agents, location or organization groupings/assignments, etc. Use NWM Console per product HELP as appropriate for your testing (formal Inst and Admin Guides are pending public release) Thumbnail Image
