Has anybody done a parallel installation of SMS 2003 and SCCM? SMS 2003 is our current infrastructure and we plan to bring up SCCM while the SMS 2003 still serving older clients. I am concerning about extending the schema for SCCM while SMS 2003 is still in existence.

We to have thought about this.  Clean is always better than an upgrade.

Extending the schema for ConfigMgr doesn't remove anything done for SMS, it just adds a few artributes.
It is ok to extend the schema for ConfigMgr while you have SMS running.

If i understand correctly, that is exactly what I did in my environment. I installed configuration manager fresh while our old SMS2003 server was still running.

Just make sure all of your boundries and discovery methods are set up so your new server doesn't start wacking clients before you're ready.
The schema update didn't hurt anything with the old client.
The only issue i had running them side by side was that without the boundry set in sccm, the clients couldn't "Autodiscover". Installing with the commandline worked fine though.
I also avoided things like using the same site code, or the same database.

what about the clients and the advertisments MhermanNBME. Did this mean every allready-deployed-package on the client was reinstalled to the clients. Did/Do you also use it as a software Update point?
