There's an "access denied" on SQL Server in the compsumm.log. If you use SQL on a different box, you'll need to add the machine account of the SMS server to the SiteToSqlServer (I think that's the name) group on the SQL server. Otherwise, data can't be inserted into the database. If it's not a permission issue, check the name resolution because "SQL server does not exist" might indicate a DNS issue.
Look in the event viewer for more information and check the status messages in the SMS admin console.

Hi

Thanx for your quick response!!!

SMS Server part of Local Admin group, also part of SMS_SiteSystemtoSQL group (on SQL box).
SQL server also part of Local admin group and also part of SMS_SitetoSite connection and SMS_SiteSystemtoServer Connection (SMS Server)
Did Gpupdate on both servers. Restarted relevant SMS services.
Can not see anything in event viewer except that server restarted just before error occured.
Can not see if anything was installed prior to error.
