Hi all!

We got the following problem: We have one package where the client agent seems to be unable to download the program (which should install .NET Framework 2.0). When launching the program through the Run Advertised Programs Interface, the GUI displays the correct size for the package, but then the progress bar stops at 0% and will remain so. We've tried everything (deleting the package, advertisements, collections). We have doublechecked all settings - it just won't work. All other packages are working fine. The only issue I found was a CDTSJob Error in the log but I could find no information regarding this error. The Package fails on every client so I cannot be an issue of the client. Has anyone had similar problems?

Attached you'll find the DataTransferService.log that was created while downloading the program on the client.

I'm having the exact same problem here. Sadly for me it seems to be ALL my packages that have this issue. Downloading and installing an application that is about 10 Mb takes almost 30 minutes. Installing the same application as part of a task sequence is no problem at all. Looking at the status for the advertisement just says "Waiting for content", and has done so now overnight. Clients are both Vista and XP, and with a clean install of the SCCM client. What has happened, MS has released a fantastic patch that broke everything?

Even stranger is the fact that all packages have been imported via an import script, because the all basically look the same. Therefore it is guaranteed that all settings are the same. Every other package is working perfectly. But that damn package just won't start to download. Even when leaving the window open over night in the morning the download bar still displays 0% progress.

Adding some little info: When I look in the CCM\Cache folder there is a folder with the correct ID and with .tmp files inside, with the size of the actual app that is supposed to run. Still wont run though......

Well,
I can't see much wrong in there... The Contenet Transfer Manager is cancelling the download for some reason...  I know there's some problems with pre-SP1 CTM, so if you've not upgraded then this certainly worth a go. I also know that there's problems with downloads hanging on non-BITS enabled DPs, but that's obviously not the issue in this instance.

I'm afraid I can't think of a solution in this instance. Anyone else got any thoughts?

Thanks anyway. It's starting to drive me insane, there seems to be absolutely no reason why the damn thing suddenly went from high speed distribution of packages to modem speed.... Especially since the app gets downloaded to the Cache folder  as I earlier said, as fast as before it seems. Then it just sits there and wait for hours before it maybe decides to install. Could it have something to do with advertisement times that is somehow out of sync on server and client? Broken COM rights somewhere? Just half a day from reverting to .bat scripts and doubleclicking now it seems

You haven't done something odd with BITS perchance?

On your clients, what values do you have here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\BITS]

"MaxBandwidthValidFrom"

i had an issue just like this a while back on some clients not able to download.  It was crazy.. It ended up being WINS.  can you check and see if the client can access the UNC of the package?  When i tested i could not access UNC.. i could access ip thought..

Yeah,
If you set the first one, EnableBITSMaxBandwidth to 0, restart the Background Intelligent Transfer service then try your program download you might find it's a little quicker.
You're limiting BITS to 14Kbs (although the from and to times should be in 24hr format, so 9 and 11 would suggest that it's only limted for three minutes a little after midnight...? I must be mis-interpreting this...

Eitherway, try changing the top setting to zero and let us know how you get on.

jquirk822, you're the man! Thanks a lot, the speed is back to normal again after the BITS setting in the registry! Now I just have to push that setting to the rest of my clients:) God knows what changed it in the first place though....I have no throttling or anything activated from my SCCM server.

These settings may be coming from ConfigMgr, or group policy. Worth checking with RSOP...

In ConfigMgr check out the Computer Client Agent - BITS tab. I would bet half a Bounty that you've ticked "Apply to branch distribution points and all clients". Put it back to "Apply to branch distribution points only".
