I've tried six times now to deploy Office 2007 to a group of about 50 computers in a remote office.
Because BITS is enabled, it takes roughly two nights to download the content to all of the machines. The deployment fails each time with the following:
quote:

The program for advertisement "ITD2002A has failed because download of the content "ITD00004" - "Setup.exe" has failed. The download failed because the content downloaded to the client does not match the content specified in the content source. Possible causes: The content on the distribution point has been manually modified, or a local administrator on the computer has modified the content in the computer's hash. Solution: Refresh the content on the distribution point and retry the download.
I haven't modified anything on the DP, and none of the users have local admin access on the target machines. I've refreshed the content and retried with the same results.

After some searching, I came across this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907979
I checked my IIS settings and they're all ok. So I change the package settings so that it would use a compressed copy of the source directory. The deployment failed yet again with the same error message.

What am I missing?

Check and make sure that your AV isn't scanning the ccmcache folder. I have seen AV kill files and cause the same error.

Sadly, my issue wasn't covered in that thread. :-/

Try deleting the content in the ccmcache and have it redownload.  If it still fails, update the DPs and retry.

I just checked the ccmcache on a couple of the machines and the package isn't there. I've updated the DPs four times now.

The cache will populate when the program is either executed or it downloads it before it's mandatory time.  Is the advertisement configured to run the program more than once?  If it is not, then it will not download. Run the program from the Run Advertised Programs and see if the error returns.

Turns out that Mcaffe A/V was killing the CCM Cache. We updated the EPO to exclude that folder. I'll report back with results. Thanks for you help!

Ugh, it's STILL failing with the same error!

Just so I'm completely clear, the folder that should be added to my A/V's exclusion list is C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Cache, correct?

I've had this problem. Never found out why it happened but recreating the package-program and advertisement worked.

Well, I've gone ahead and done this, and advertised to just one PC as a test in the remote branch. Hopefully all goes well!

Well, recreating the package/program/advert seems to have resolved it. It installed on a test machine ok, but setup.exe is still running in the background, and CCM hasn't reported a status of Succeeded; it's still stuck on Running.
However, if I remote into the target machine, all of the Office apps are installed and run just fine. What gives?

Was a status message sent up after the program had finished?
